Box Score RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team suffered its first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) set-back in a 3-1 loss at Cabrini College on Sunday afternoon.
The Knights took the first set 25-16. The Cavaliers then won the next three sets, 26-24, 25-22, 25-22.
Kelsey D'Imperio and Anna Waltz each had 13 kills for the Knights. Julia Malseed notched 24 digs while Waltz added 11. Ashley Clark handed out 40 assists.
Neumann took control of the first set, jumping out to an early 10-2 lead. The Knights would hold the Cavaliers at bay and take the first set 25-16, capped by a kill by D'Imperio.
In the second set, the Knights were down 3-0 before Malseed was able to serve their way to a 6-3 advantage. Neumann held a 10-5 advantage. Cabrini began to chip its way back into the set. The teams were knotted at 20, 22 and then 24 before the Cavaliers were able to get consecutive points to take set two, 26-24.
Neumann held the advantage to start set three, but Cabrini would not let the set get away. Again the teams were tied down the stretch. Tied at 22 the Cavaliers scored the final three points to take a 2-1 advantage.
Cabrini was able to score the first four points of the fourth set and held the pace of most of the deciding set. With the Cavaliers on match point, 24-19, the Knights made a comeback attempt and scored three straight points for a 24-22 score. However, Cabrini was able to seal the match on the next serve and take the fourth set 25-22.
Neumann (19-10, 9-1 CSAC) wraps up CSAC action on Wednesday evening when it hosts Immaculata beginning at 7:00 PM.
