Men's Basketball Picks Up First Win for 2014-15

GALLOWAY, N.J.  – The Neumann University men's basketball team picked up its first win of the season, coming 79-69 over Penn State Brandywine Sunday afternoon in the consolation game at the Rowan University Invitational.

Anthony Fuscarello, who was named to the All-Tournament team, led the Knights with 23 points. DeShawn Lowman notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 boards. Eric Cotton tallied 13 points. Lowman and Cotton both went 5-for-6 from the free throw line. 

The teams played a back and forth first half in which the teams were knotted at 29 with 4:05 left in the first. The Knights were able to outscore the Lions 11-6 down the streatch to take a five points leas, 40-35, into the break.

The Knights continued to build their lead as the second half started, taking a double-digit advantage, 48-38, with 16:42 left in regulation. Neumann went on a 9-0 run to increase its lead to 21, 64-44, midway through the half.

Penn State Brandywine started to chip its way back into the game, going on a 10-0 run to get to within 11, 67-56, with 6:58 left on the clock. The Lions would get to within eight in the final minute, but the push was too little too late and the Knights hung on for the 79-69 win.

Neumann (1-1) and Penn State-Brandywine will meet again on Wednesday evening beginning at 7:00 PM in the Mirenda Center.
