Box Score ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Penn State-Brandywine 91-80 in the home opener on Wednesday evening in non-conference action.
DeShawn Lowman and James Butler each notched a double-double. Lowman had 23 points and 11 rebounds. The sophomore had 13 points at the free throw line. Butler added 19 points and 16 rebounds. Kevin Green tallied 20 points and Shakeen Stevens added 18.
The teams remained close as the game started and with 13:34 left in the first hlaf, the teams had their fourth tied score at 13-13. The Lions then then went on a 9-2 run to take a lead 22-15 lead. PSU-Brandywine would hold the biggest lead of the half, 36-27, with 6:10 remaining on the clock, as the Knights started to make their move. Two free throws by Lowman capped a 9-0 run by Neumann to get to within one, 38-37.
With 1:23 left in the first, Neumann tied it up 43-43. A layup by Stevens and a three-pointer by Green in the final minute of play put the Knights up 48-43 at the half.
The Lions jumped early in the second half to quickly tie the game. Each team would take tiny runs, while neither could build a comfortable lead. With 7:14 left in regulation, and Neumann holding to a one points lead, 70-69, the Knights final took control and went on a 13-3 run over the next four minutes. That run was the difference and Neumann was able to hold onto the lead for the win.
Neumann (2-1) will travel to Eastern this Saturday for non-conference action. The tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.?
