ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball come-from-behind bid fell just short, 69-66 at Eastern University on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
DeShawn Lowman led four Knights in double-digits with 16 points. Pierre Charles and Tyreek Riddick each netted 13 points and Kevin Green added 10.
Eastern held the pace in the first half, starting the game on a 12-1 run and building its lead to as many as 14, 25-11. Neumann made its back to within nine, 36-27, heading into halftime.
The Eagles built their lead back up to 12, 46-35, with 15:56 on the clock. The Knights then started to make their move and went on a 16-3 run over the next four minutes to tie the game at 49 and take a 51-49 lead. Over the final 10 minutes of regulation, the teams would trade baskets and the lead and with 1:32 remaining, the score was knotted at 66.
The Eagles were able to get a lay-up with 42 seconds remaining and the made one-of-two from the free throw line with 14 seconds left for a three point lead. Green had a chance to tie the game in the final seconds, but could not connect on the three-pointer.
Neumann (2-2) will open conference play on Tuesday when it hosts Rosemont. Tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
