ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University men's basketball team snuck past the Rosemont Ravens Tuesday evening with a 49-46 win to start Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
Pierre Charles led the Knights with 12 points. DeShawn Lowman added 10 points. Six other Knights added at least a point in the win.
It was a slow start for both teams as it took two minutes for either team to score a point. After a free throw by Lowman and a three pointer by Kevin Green, the Knights held a 4-0 lead and never looked back in the first half.
The Knights biggest lead came with 6:05 left in the first half, 19-5, when Tyreek Riddick hit a three-pointer. The Ravens started to chip away and the Knights lead was eight, 26-18, at the half.
Rosemont started the second half with three quick buckets and Neumann held the lead to one. It was a battle the first ten minutes with Neumann trying their hardest to maintain the lead and keep momentum.
Rosemont tied the game at 36 with 9:25 left in the half, but would not take the lead. Baskets by Lowman and Charles put Neumann quickly back up by five.
With a minute to go in the game, Rosemont made two free throws to cut Neumann's lead to two. Sawyer Hand and Charles each went one-for-two from the line for a four point lead, 49-45. The Ravens made one free throw to get back within a basket with 10 second remaining and retained possession after an offensive rebound.
Neumann (3-2, 1-0 CSAC) will face Penn State-Abington on Saturday in Radnor, Pa. as part of the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic at Cabrini College. The Knights and Lions tip-off at 2:15PM.?
