Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team opened ECAC West action with an exciting 3-2 overtime against Elmira College on Friday evening.
Chris Bournazos netted two goals for the Knights. Ben Curley made 26 saves in net, 14 of which came in the third period. Some of the shots were point blank while others Curley made while on his back.
Liam Board put Neumann on the board just 1:44 into the game. Nick Perruccio and Shayne Morrissey assisted on the goal.
The game would remain 1-0 until Bournazos scored his first goal with 1:52 left in the second period. Sam House tallied the assist. The Knights held a 2-0 lead after two and a 34-12 advantage in shots.
Elmira began to fire towards Curley in the third period and outshot Neumann 16-5. The Soaring Eagles netted a power play goal at the 7:19 mark of the third on a laser from the point. Just 36 seconds later, Elmira knotted the game at two, again with a shot from the point that found its way into the net.
Bournazos lit the lamp on a man-advantage 2:14 into the extra session. Ryan Luiten and Jon Low had the assists to give the Knights the 3-2 overtime win.
Neumann (1-0-1, 1-0 ECAC West) will host Hobart tomorrow evening for more conference action. The puck is set to drop at 7:00 PM.
