Box Score ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell to Hobart College 6-3 in ECAC West action on Saturday evening.
After a relatively quiet first period, the Knights then scored twice in the 18th minute to jump to a 2-0 lead before the first intermission. Matt Zendejas scored first off a pass from Shayne Morrissey. Dan McDougall scored three seconds into a power play for a 2-0 lead. Mike Davis tallied the assist.
The Statesmen scored quickly in the second period, at the 1:29 and 2:40 marks, to tie the game at two. Hobart then ended up on a 5-on-3 extended man advantage as Neumann found itself in the penalty box. The Statesmen took a 3-2 lead with a 5-on-3 goal at the 13:33 mark. A minute later, Hobart scored again, this time on a 5-on-4 goal, for a 4-2 advantage.
Thirty-four seconds into the third period, Hobart scored again for a 5-2 lead. Morrissey scored his first goal of the season six seconds into a power play, to cut the deficit to two, 5-3. Brandon Gagne had the assist.
The Statesmen scored an empty net goal with a minute left in regulation to seal the win.
Both teams netted two power play goals. Ben Curley made 33 saves in net.
Neumann (1-1-1, 1-1 ECAC West) will host Manhattanville next weekend for a pair of conference match-ups. The puck drops on Friday and Saturday at 7:00 PM.
