Luiten Leads Knights Over Roos

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team wrapped up the first part of the season with a convincing 6-0 win against SUNY-Canton on Saturday evening in non-conference action.

Ryan Luiten led the Knights with a natural hat trick. Chris Bournazos had three helpers. Jory Mullin had a goal and an assist. Ben Curley made the 14 saves needed for the shutout. The Knights outshot the Roos 52-14 on net.

Mullin opened the scoring early, finding the back of the net just 1:52 into the game. Bournazos and Mikko Virtanen tallied the assists and the Knights never looked back. Nick Perruccio scored on the power play at the 13:49 mark for a 2-0 Neumann lead. Shayne Morrissey and Doug Rose assisted as the Knights took the 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Luiten scored his first goal of the game just 14 seconds into the second period. Bournazos and Steve Low assisted on the power play goal.

Luiten netted his second goal 6:22 into the third period for a 4-0 score. Casey Rogers and Bournazos drew the assists. The sophomore completed his hat trick with 2:01 left in regulation. Mullin had the helper. CJ Cruz capped the scoring with 12 seconds on the clock. Matt Mazzarolo handed out the assist.

Neumann (6-2-2) is now off until after the New Year when it will participate in the Northfield Bank Tournament at Norwich. The Knights will face Buffalo State on January 2 at 4:00 PM.
