IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team fell to Immaculata University 69-66 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday evening.
Mark Blount led the Knights with 24 points and nine rebounds. DeShawn Lowman added 17 points. Reggie Coleman had 15 points and 11 assists.
The Knights held the pace in the first half as they built up a 27-11 advantage after 11 minutes. Neumann kept a double-digit lead for the rest of the half and had a 37-27 lead at the break.
Immaculata slowly started to chip its way back into the game as Neumann could not put away the Mighty Macs. With 5:35 left on the clock, the Mighty Macs hit two free throws to tie the game at 55 then take a 56-55 lead.
The teams traded baskets back and forth as time continued to come off the clock. With 1:13 left, Immaculata held a six point lead, 67-61. Lowman hit a layup and converted the free throw after being fouled with 1:00 minute remaining. Rich Whitten then hit a layup after stealing the ball for a one point game, 67-66, with 24 seconds left in regulation.
The Mighty Macs hit two free throws with 15 seconds left to a three point lead, 69-66. Coleman attempted a three-pointer with two seconds remaining to tie the game, but missed and Immaculata hung on for the win.
Neumann (15-7, 10-5 CSAC) will host Gwynedd Mercy University on Saturday in conference action. The seniors will be recognized before the game, which tips-off at 1:00 PM.
