Knights Offense Explodes to Top Griffins

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University 72-55 on Saturday afternoon in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

Before the game, the four senior members of the team were recognized: Dom Gibson, Rich Whitten, Reggie Coleman and Mark Blount.

Coleman led the way for the Knights netting a team high 27 points while dishing out four assists. Blount pulled in a whopping 22 rebounds while also adding 12 points and seven blocks. Whitten added 12 points and Lamon Church notched 9 points in the win against the Griffins.

Neumann and Gwynedd Mercy traded baskets early in the first half. After the Griffins took their only lead of the game, 13-12, the Knights answered with a 12-4 run to hold their largest lead of the first half, 24-17, with 7:27 left. By the end of the first 20 minutes, the Knights held a 34-28 lead going into halftime.

The Knights opened the second half with a steal by Blount and a layup by Church. With Neumann holding a 14 point lead over the Griffins, Gwynedd Mercy began to chip its way back into the game. The Griffins went on a 13-2 run, started by a made free throw by Cedric Elleby, to get within three, 47-44.

With six minutes left in regulation, Neumann held a five point advantage, 56-51, and went on a 9-0 run to jump out to a 64-51 lead to foil any more of Gwynedd Mercy's attempted comeback. The Knights held off the Griffins for the final four minutes and cruised to another CSAC win 72-55.

Neumann (16-7, 11-5 CSAC) will host Cabrini College in conference action on Monday evening. The tip-off is slated for 7:00 PM.
