ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team dropped its season opened 6-5 to King's College (Pa.) in a battle on Sunday afternoon.
Patrick Rose had a goal and an assist for the Knights. Alex Becker made 20 saves.
Rob Williamson scored the first goal of the game at the 9:37 mark of the first quarter, off an assist from Chris Scott. Ryan O'Kane put the Knights up 2-0 three minutes later. King's netted one goal in the first quarter for a 2-1 score.
Ryan Eber scored the only goal of the second quarter for a 3-1 Neumann lead at the half.
Rose scored his goal 1:03 into the half for a 4-1 Knights advantage. The Monarchs then netted three straight goals to tie the score at four. Kevin Fonio put Neumann back up, 5-4, with 12 seconds left in the third quarter. Rose assisted on the goal.
King's netted the only two goals in the fourth and final quarter. The Monarchs tied the game at the 8:51 mark and then took a 6-5 lead with 4:41 left in regulation. Neumann had its chances to tie the game, but could not net the tying goal and the clock ran out.
Neumann (0-1) will host Elizabethtown on Saturday in non-conference action beginning at 1:00 PM.
