Knights Prevail over Crusaders in Back and Forth Battle

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season in a 15-13 back and forth battle against Alvernia University on Monday afternoon.

Gabbey Murray and Mandy Fedak each netted four goals. Rebecca Dolenti notched three goals and two assists. Jordan Hopkins had two goals and an assist while Koula Gregor had a goal and an assist. Christina Hughes made 14 saves in net.

The game was a battle from the start, before the Knights prevailed after 60 minutes. Fedak scored the first two goals of the game for Neumann. The teams would continue to trade goals, until Neumann netted three straight going to take a 6-3 lead with 13:02 left in the first half.

The teams would end the half swapping goals and the Knights held an 8-6 lead at the break.

Murray scored one of her goals two minutes into the second half. The Crusaders then netted three straight goals to tie the game. Lex McIntyre put the Knights back up by one, 10-9. Alvernia then netted two straight goals to take its first lead of the game. Hopkins and Murray scored nine seconds apart to take back the lead.

Alvernia tied the game at 12 with 13:30 left in regulation. Gregor scored next for a 13-12 Neumann lead. Fedak netted her fourth goal for a two-goal lead. The Crusaders cut the lead back to one with 5:56 remaining. Hopkins scored an insurance goal just over a minute later. The Knights held onto the ball for the final four minutes and came away with the 15-13 win.


Neumann (1-1) will host Widener on Wednesday is a rescheduled game from Florida. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
