ST. DAVID'S, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell in a close 16-14 game at Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.
Jordan Hopkins led the Knights with four goals. Gabbey Murray, Mandy Fedak and Koula Gregor all netted three goals. Gregor also added an assist. Christina Hughes made 16 saves in net. Lex McIntyre picked up eight ground balls and caused five turnovers.
The game was back and forth from the beginning. Hopkins put the Knights on the board first just 1:13 into the game. Midway through the first half, the Eagles were able to net three goals in a two minute span to take a 3-3 game and jump out to a 6-3 lead.
Murray converted a free position attempt with 46 seconds left in the first half and Gregor found the back of the net with 18 seconds remaining for a 9-7 Eastern lead at the break.
The Knights were able to net three goals in 32 seconds early in the second half to pull even at 10-all. The Eagles scored the next two goals to take back the lead. Neumann stayed right with Eastern throughout the second half, but could not get the tying goal to get in the net when the occasion came around. Fedak scored the Knights final goal with 26 remaining in regulation.
Neumann (2-2) hosts Wesley on Monday evening in a make-up game from earlier this season. The game is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
