ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's lacrosse team celebrated senior day by clinching a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) berth with a 15-7 over Rosemont on Thursday evening.
Before the game, the Knights honored its 10 senior players, playing in their final regular season home game; Patrick Rose, Evan Zielinski, Alex Becker, Rob Foster, Kevin Fonio Bob Markunas, Rob Tagle, Kenny Worth, Taylor Ehret and Drew Millard.
Fonio led the Knights with seven goals and two assists in the game. Rose added a goal and four assists. Chris Scott handed out four assists. Ryan O'Kane had three goals and an assist. Becker made 12 saves in net for the win.
Fonio put the Knights on the board first 1:43 into the game. The Ravens scored the next two goals for a 2-1 lead. O'Kane and Ryan Eber scored within a minute of each other to take a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
Neumann scored the first three goals of the second quarter for a 6-2 lead. Rosemont would get two back, but O'Kane scored with 1:12 left in the half for a 7-4 lead at the break.
Rosemont scored the first goal of the second to pull within two, 7-5. Neumann then rattled off four straight goals for an 11-5 heading into the final 15 minutes.
The Knights did not let up in the fourth quarter as they started to see the playoff light. Neumann netted four more goals for the 15-7 final and the first playoff berth since 2002.
Neumann (6-9, 3-3 CSAC) will be the No. 4 seed in the CSAC playoffs and will face No. 1 seeded Cabrini in the semifinals next Tuesday. Specifics TBD.
