Women's Lacrosse Season Ends in Close Loss to Rangers

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell in a close 16-14 game to Drew University on Wednesday evening in ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship first round action.

"I am extremely proud of the team this year", said Head Coach Christy Malone. "The team made great strides and great progression this season!"

Jordan Hopkins led the Knights with five goals. Rebecca Dolenti had three goals. Gabbey Murray notched two goals and an assist. Sam Kotowski made 12 saves in net.

The game was back and forth from the beginning. The Knights scored the first two goals of the game and four of the first five for an early 4-1 lead. The Rangers answered two straight goals and a 4-3 game. Neumann led 7-4 with five minutes left in the first half when Drew scored the final three goals of the half for a 7-7 game at the break.

Drew scored the first goal of the second half to take an 8-7 lead. Neumann then netted four consecutive goals to take back the lead, 11-8. The teams traded goals while the Knights tried to keep the Rangers at arms length.

With 8:45 left in regulation, Drew scored to tie the game at 13. The Rangers then scored again a minute and a half later for a 14-13 lead. Hopkins scored within the next minute to tie the game again.

Drew broke the 14-all game with a goal with 3:04 left on the clock. The Rangers netted an insurance goal with 1:49 remaining and they hung on for the 16-14 win.

With the win, Drew will face No. 1 Lebanon Valley on Saturday in the semifinals.

Neumann ends its season 12-6 overall.
