HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University volleyball team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action with a convincing 3-0 win at Centenary College on Friday evening. Set scores were 25-11, 25-6, 25-3.
It was a total team effort as 14 players saw time on the court. Kat Wolf notched seven service aces and Nikki Collevechio had six service aces in the match. Kristine Quinn added five as the Knights combined for 23 in the three sets. Wolf also handed out 25 assists.
Neumann held the pace of the match from the beginning. While Julia Malseed was serving, the Knights turned a 4-1 lead into a 7-1 advantage. With the score 11-2, the Cyclones were able to string together three consecutive points, however, the Knights took back the momentum sealed the first set on a kill by Sarah Sanderson.
In the second set, Wolf opened the serving with three service aces and built up a quick 9-0 lead. Quinn, Megan McGarrigle and Collevechio rounded out the second set win, making the serves count.
In the third and final set, Wolf served five straight points as the Knights took a 9-1 lead. Quinn served 11 straight serves, including four service aces, for Neumann to take a commanding 20-2 lead. McGarrigle served the final four points of the match.
Neumann (7-3, 1-0 CSAC) will host Marywood tomorrow afternoon in more CSAC action beginning at 2:00 PM.
