Knights Takes Down Highlanders in Three Sets

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team defeated Cairn University in straight sets, 3-0, on Thursday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action. Set scores were 25-11, 25-18, 25-19.

Once again, in a total team effort, the Knights were able to pick up their third conference victory this season. Kat Wolf handed out 29 assists and notched 10 digs. Sarah Sanderson had nine kills and only two errors for a .412 hitting percentage. Faith Cook notched six kills in one set, with no errors, for a .462 hitting percentage.

Neumann held the pace in the first set. With Wolf serving, the Knights took a 17-7 lead and jumped out to a 22-7 advantage. A kill by Kelsey D'Imperio sealed the first set win.

In set two, the Highlanders took a 10-5 advantage to start. Led by a series of serves by Wolf, the Knights climbed their way back into the set and took a 13-10 lead before Wolf was finished serving. Once again, a kill by D'Imperio gave the Knights the 25th point.

In the third set, Cairn held a four point lead a few times. Nikki Collevechio served four straight points for Neumann for a 17-all set. Three final points by Ali Frey sealed the victory, including a service ace on the deciding point.

Neumann (9-3, 3-0 CSAC) will now hit the road for its next seven matches. The Knights begin at the Lebanon Valley Quad Match tomorrow evening. Neumann will face Lebanon Valley on Friday and then Bridgewater and Frostburg State on Saturday.
