ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team won an exciting 2-1 game in double overtime against Widener University on Thursday afternoon. This is the first time the Knights have defeated the Pride since at least 2004.

Senior Carolynn Bacho took the ball and dribbled it down the field in the first minute of the second overtime. Bacho and teammate Lindsey Spatola ended up on past the Pride defenders and one the goalie. Just 57 seconds into the second overtime, Bacho knocked the ball past the Pride keeper for the win.

After the teams played to a scoreless first half, Widener took a 1-0 lead in the 48th minute. As time was ticking away, Neumann took advantage of back-to-back penalty corners. Spatola shot the ball that was saved by the Pride keeper. Alexa McIntyre then put the rebound into the back of the cage with 1:51 left in regulation.

The Knights outshot the Pride 25-14 and held a 15-8 advantage in penalty corners. Summer Sklivas made seven saves in net to pick up her first collegiate win. The defense was outstanding in helping keep Widener to one goal.

Neumann (1-2) will travel to Goucher College on Saturday afternoon. Action gets underway at 4:00 PM.
