Women's Hockey Drops 5-2 Decision to No. 2 Elmira

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team dropped a 5-2 decision to No. 2 Elmira College on Saturday afternoon in ECAC West action.

The Soaring Eagles scored the only goal in a quiet first period.

The action picked up in the second period. Bek Lucas knotted the game at one 1:35 into the second. Shanelle Doucette tallied the assist. A couple minutes later, Elmira scored a shorthanded goal, the only special team's goal of the team in a flurry of penalties, to take back the lead. The Soaring Eagles took a two goal lead midway through the period.

Megan Russelo got the Knights back to within one, 3-2, at the 12:32 mark. Doucette notched her second assist in of the game. With 2:14 left before intermission, Elmira got back its two-goal lead.

Neumann had opportunities in the third, including a 5-on-3 power play, but could not find the back of the net. The Knights outshot the Soaring Eagles 10-7 in the final period. Elmira sealed the win with an empty net goal with 14 seconds left in regulation.

Justina Mayr made 29 saves in net. Neumann (3-12-1, 1-9 ECAC West) travels to SUNY-Cortland next weekend for a pair of conference games. Action gets underway at 3:00 PM on Saturday and 2:00 PM on Sunday.
