NORTFIELD, Vt. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell to Buffalo State 5-2 in the first day of competition at the Northfield Bank Tournament at Norwich University on Friday afternoon.

Shayne Morrissey drew helpers on both Knight tallies. Ben Curley made 24 saves in net. Neumann outshot Buffalo State 39-29.

The Bengals opened the scoring 1:13 into the game. Doug Rose knotted the game at one at the 4:54 mark while on the man advantage. Mike Davis and Morrissey handed out the assists. Buffalo State added two more goals in the first period to take a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Nick Perruccio got Neumann to within one 4:15 into the second frame. Morrissey and Steve Low had the assists. Buffalo State also tallied a goal in the second to keep its two goals lead, 4-2, leading into the final period.

The Bengals scored an empty net goal in the third period for the only goal of the final 20 minutes for the 5-2 finals.

Neumann (6-3-2) will face either Colby or Norwich in the consolation game tomorrow afternoon beginning at 4:00 PM.
