ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team overcame a four goal deficit to tie Utica College 5-5 in overtime on Saturday evening in ECAC West action.

Mike Davis and Jory Mullin each score twice for the Knights. Dan McDougall had a goal and an assist. Ben Curley made 13 saves in net as he started the game. Matt Gibney also made 13 saves and picked up the tie in net as he did not allow a goal in relief.

Like the night before, the Knights struck early as McDougall put Neumann up 1-0 4:40 into the game. Nick Perruccio and Jon Low tallied the assists. Unlike the night before, Utica answered and tallied three goals during the rest of the first period to take a 3-1 lead into the first intermission.

The Pioneers added two more goals to their lead during the early part of the second period to chase Curley from the game. Davis was able to score his first goal of the game five minutes before the second intermission. Shayne Morrissey drew the helper for a 5-2 score after two periods.

The Knights started the second period on a man-advantage as the Pioneers took a major penalty with a minute left in the second period. Davis was able to score his second goal of the game just 15 seconds into the third for a 5-3 game. Ryan Luiten and Casey Rogers had the assists.

As the period was starting to wind down and still down by two, the Knights pulled their goalie for an extra attacker. It worked as Mullin scored with 1:26 left in regulation. Anthony Pino and McDougall had the assists as the Knights pulled to within one. With the goalie still pulled, Mullin was able to score again, this time with 12 seconds remaining, to complete the comeback and tie the game at five.

Neither team could find the back of the net in the overtime session and the game ended in a tie.

After being outshot 16-7 after one period, the Knights came back to outshoot the Pioneers 42-31 in the game.

Neumann (9-5-4, 5-2-1 ECAC West) hits the road for the next four games, beginning with a pair of games at Hobart next weekend.
