HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University men's basketball team came away with a 61-56 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win at Centenary College on Wednesday evening.
DeShawn Lowman led the Knights with 16 points. Kevin Green netted 14 and Denzel Yard added 10.
The game was a tale of two halves. Neumann took control in the first half, taking a 14-3 lead after the first five minutes. The Knights built their lead to as many as 17 during the half and took a 32-18 lead into the half.
In the second half, Centenary started to slowly chip away at Neumann's lead and got to within five, 44-39, with 8:50 left in regulation. The Cyclones then went on a quick 7-2 run to knot the score at 46 with five minutes remaining. The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes.
With 1:23 left on the clock. Green hit a three-pointer to put the Knights back in the lead, 53-50. Lowman then went 3-for-4 from the line for a 56-50 game. Centenary hit a three pointer for a one possession game. Lowman and Green each knocked down to free throws in the final 16 seconds for extend the Knights lead. The Cyclones hit a three with two seconds remaining for a fout point game. Green hit a free throw with under a seconds remaining to seal the win.
Neumann (6-5, 3-1 CSAC) continues its road trip when it heads to Marywood on Saturday for more CSAC action. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM.
