Women's Hockey Opens 2015 with Convincing Win

HENNIKER, N.H. – The Neumann University women's ice hockey team started 2015 off on the right foot with a 5-1 win at New England College on Friday evening.

Neumann struck fast, scoring just 2:26 into the game as Bek Lucas scored her seventh goal of the season. Megan Russelo and Shanelle Doucette had the assists. Three minutes later, Zoe Harkins netted her first goal of the season off an assist from Casey Kilduff.

Kate Blad also scored her first goal of the season, coming unassisted with 1:05 left in the first period for a 3-0 Knights lead. The Pilgrims scored their goal of the game with 41 seconds first for a 3-1 game heading into the intermission.

Sarah Thon scored an unassisted goal in the second period. Lauren Cusack capped the scoring in the third period with a power play tally. Lucas and Grace Klienbach had the helpers.

Justina Mayr picked up the win and made 23 saves in net. The Knights outshot the Pilgrims 38-24.

Neumann (2-9-1) and New England College will face off again tomorrow afternoon. The puck is slated to drop at 1:00 PM.
