SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team fell at Swarthmore College, 60-47, on Saturday afternoon in the first game of the Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament.
JoHanna Metzger led the Knights with 23 points and 18 rebounds for her second double-double of the season. Ten of her boards were offensive.
With the Garnet holding a 10-8 lead, they went on a 14-2 run to take a 24-10 advantage. Swarthmore would lead 24-14 after one quarter.
The Knights scored the first four points in the second quarter for a 24-18 game, the closest the Knights would get in the quarter. The Garnet took a 37-26 lead into halftime.
Swarthmore opened the second half with a 14 -4 run for a 21 point lead. The Knights were able to chip back to a 10 point deficit, 57-47, with 6:13 left in regulation. However, neither team would connect on another basket until 1:45 left on the clock when the Garnet had a layup and a free throw. Again, neither team would be able to find the basket and the game would end 60-47.
Neumann (1-2) will face Randolph-Macon tomorrow afternoon at day two of the Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament. Tip-Off is slated for 1:00 PM.
