SWARTHMORE, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team dropped an 83-71 game to Randolph-Macon College on Sunday afternoon during day two of the Swarthmore Tip-Off Tournament.
JoHanna Metzger had a double-double with 24 points and 16 rebounds to lead Neumann. She was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Nafisa Saunders added 12 points while going 10-for-11 from the free throw line.
Lauren Legler scored 11 points.
The teams battled back and forth during the first quarter. The Yellow Jackets held a 17-14 lead after the first 10 minutes.
Ericka Smith-Sowell opened the second quarter with a layup for a one point game. Randolph-Macon went on a 9-2 run to take a 26-18 lead.
Emily Lyons then connected on a three-pointer to break the run. However, the Yellow Jackets went on to score the next seven points for a 33-21 advantage. R-MC would take a 38-29 lead into halftime.
Randolph-Macon held a double-digit lead throughout most of the second half, including a 62-48 lead after three quarters.
The Knights started the fourth quarter with a 15-8 run to get to within seven, 70-63, with four minutes on the clock. Neumann was not able to get any closer as the teams traded baskets over the final few minutes and Randolph-Macon hung on for the win.
Neumann (1-3) will open conference action on Tuesday when it hosts Keystone College beginning at 7:00 PM.
