ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team defeated Keystone College 3-0 in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) semifinal action on Thursday evening. With the win, the Knights advance to the CSAC Championship on Saturday.
Anna Waltz led the Knights with 11 kills, and hit .500.
Julia Malseed and
Rachael Hoffman each added eight kills while
Shayne Sullivan had seven.
Kat Wolf handed out 28 assists and tallied 14 digs. Malseed notched five service aces and Wolf added four.
Neumann won the first set 25-13. Malseed served the final four points, capped with a service ace. In the second set, the Knights jumped out to an early 11-3 lead. The Knights scored their 24
th point on a kill from
Sarah Sanderson and then sealed the second set on a Giants attack error, 25-15.
The Knights had to work a little harder in the third set for the straight set win. Keystone scored the first two points and took a 5-2 lead. A kill by Waltz and two attack errors by the Giants tied the game at five. The teams battled back and forth and ended up tied at 15. While Malseed was serving, the Knights scored the next eight points. Kills by Sullivan, Sanderson and Waltz prompted a timeout by Keystone, down 18-15. Malseed come out of the timeout with a service ace and Neumann went onto win the set 25-17.
Neumann (16-19) will face Cabrini for the CSAC Championship on Saturday. Cabrini defeated Immaculata 3-0 to advance.
