Men's Hockey Holds Off Nazareth 4-3

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University's men's hockey teams held off Nazareth by a 4-3 score on Friday night in ECAC West action.

Prior to the game, Mr. Jim Delany, Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Neumann University, dropped a ceremonial first puck as the Knights celebrated the 50th Anniversary of Neumann. Neumann wore special jerseys that represent the history of Neumann.

Four different Knights lit the lamp in the game. Anthony Pino and Sam House each tallied two assist. Matt Gibney made 31 saves in net for the win.

Liam Board put the Knights on the board first, scoring 5:48 into the game. House and Pino picked up the assists. Neumann went up 2-0 as Shayne Morrissey put the puck in the back of the net at the 14:04 mark of the first. Nick Perruccio and House tallied the assists. Just 53 seconds later, Doug Rose put the Knights up 3-0 with a helper from Pino had the assist.

With Neumann holding the 3-0 lead and looking to take the advantage into the first intermission, Nazareth scored with 39 seconds left in the first to try and break the Knights momentum.

In the second period, the Golden Flyers use the momentum swing from the late goal in the first period and scored two power play goals in the first 10 minutes to tie the game at three.

Jon Low put the Knights back in the lead, 4-3, with 14:22 left in the period, which would be the eventual game-winner. Brandon Gagne and Ryan Luiten picked up the assists and Neumann took the one goal advantage into the second intermission.

The teams battled back and forth in the third period and Neumann kept Nazareth off the board on two man advantages in the third period to come away with the win. The Golden Flyers pulled their goalie for the final 1:30, but could not find the back of the net with the extra attacker.

Neumann (11-8-4, 7-5-1 ECAC West) and Nazareth (11-8-4, 7-3-3) will face-off again tomorrow afternoon with a 4:00 PM puck drop. The Knights will recognize seniors Dan McDougall, Chris Bournazos, Matt Mazzarolo, and Ben Curley before the game.
