Knights Fly Past Soaring Eagles in Conference Win

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team picked up a key ECAC West win, 7-4, at Elmira College on Friday evening.

Jory Mullin netted two goals and an assist to lead the Knights. Chris Bournazos and Doug Rose each had a goal and an assist. Liam Board tallied a goal and two assists. Mikko Virtanen handed out two assists. Thirteen Knights had at least a point on the score sheet.

Each team lit the lamp twice in the first period. Anthony Pino opened the scoring at the 6:39 mark. Board and Mazzarolo had the assists. Elmira answered with the next two goals, one coming on the man advantage, to take a 2-1 lead. Mullin scored a shorthanded goal with 4:11 left in the first to tie the game at two. Bournazos and Virtanen tallied the assists.

Neumann found the back of the net four times in the second period to take control of the game. Bournazos scored, off an assists from Mullin and Dan McDougall, to put the Knights up 3-2 at the 5:49 mark. Rose and Mullin lit the lamp two minute apart from each other for a 5-2 game. Brandon Gagne tallied with a minute and a half left before the second intermission for a 6-2 game heading into the third period.

The Soaring Eagles scored a power play goal 1:01 into the third period. Elmira then tallied another goal a few minutes later for a 6-4 game.

With the goalie pulled, Board scored an empty net goal to seal the conference win for the Knights.

Ben Curley made 33 saves in net as the Knights improved to 10-7-4 overall and 6-4-1 in conference action. The two teams will meet again tomorrow evening with the puck slated to drop at 7:00 PM.
