Men's Hockey Edged at Elmira

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team fell at Elmira College 6-5 in ECAC West action on Saturday evening.

Elmira scored 1:29 into the game and took a 2-0 lead after the first period.

Casey Rogers put the Knights on the board at the 7:05 mark of the second period. Ryan Luiten and Steve Low tallied the assists. The Soaring Eagles took back a two goal lead with a power play goal midway through the period. Doug Rose brought Neumann back to within one with 4:27 left on an unassisted goal. Elmira held the 3-2 lead heading into the final 20 minutes.

Six goals in all were scored in the third period. Elmira started the scoring 2:49 into the final period. Shane Topf answered two minutes later to at back to within one. The Soaring Eagles netted the next two goals for a 6-3 advantage with 3:23 left in regulation.

The Knights were not going quietly and Zac Lazzaro scored a minute later off an assist from Nick Perruccio. With the goalie pulled, Jory Mullin scored with 1:14 left in regulation to get the Knights to within one, 6-5. Rose and Mike Davis had the assists. Neumann kept the goalie pulled but could not get the equalizer.

Ben Curley made 31 saves in net. The Knights outshot the Soaring Eagles 45-37.

Neumann (10-8-4, 6-5-1 ECAC West) returns home next weekend to host Nazareth in a pair of conference games. The puck drops on Friday at 7:00 PM and at 4:00 PM on Saturday.
