ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse game earned their first win of the season on Wednesday evening, 17-15 over Elizabethtown College.
Jordan Hopkins and Rebecca Dolenti each scored four goals leading the way for the Knights. Gabbey Murray, Amanda Fedak and Shae Risley each tallied two goals. Freshman goalie Gabby Curry earned her first win in net with the help of her defense and solid goal scoring. She recorded six saves.
Hopkins started the scoring off with a goal in the first 32 seconds. A few back and forth goals minutes later, and the game was tied 2-2 with 25:33 remaining in the half. With the Blue Jays up 7-5, the Knights scored the final five goals of the first half to enter halftime with a 10-7 advantage.
Neumann started off the second half letting up two goals, making the score 10-9, and putting more pressure on the offense to give the team some more cushion. Neumann went on to score three straight goals, before letting up a goal at the 21:07 mark making the score 13-10.
With the Knights ahead 15-11 with 14:38 left on the clock, the Blue Jays scored four goals to tie the game at 15 with 8:11 left in regulation. Hopkins scored the final two goals of the game for a 17-15 score. Neumann was able to hold Elizabethtown off the board for the final five minutes to come away with the win.
Neumann (1-2) will host Eastern University on Saturday afternoon. Action gets underway 12:00 PM.
