Women's Lacrosse Falls in Final Minute to Eastern

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell in a close 9-8 game against Eastern University on Saturday afternoon.

Amanda Fedak led the Knights with three goals. Jordan Hopkins and Rebecca Dolenti each netted two goals. Gabby Curry was outstanding in net, making 17 saves.

It was a tale of two halves. Neumann opened the scoring early as Fedak scored 20 seconds into the game. Eastern tied the game at the 27:17 mark. The Knights then netted three straight goals by Hopkins, Fedak and Dolenti, to take a 4-1 lead. The score would remain 4-1 for nine minutes until the teams each scored two more goals before the half and Neumann led a 6-3 lead at the break.

Eastern then took over as the second half started. The Eagles cut the lead to 6-4 3:19 into the second half. Neither team would find the back of the net over the next 10 minutes until Hopkins scored her eighth goal of the season, putting the Knights up three. Eastern scored the next two goals to get to within one, 7-6, with 7:58 left on the clock. Alexa McIntyre scored a free position goal to give Neumann back a two goal lead. The Eagles went on to score three unanswered goals, including the game-winner with 45 seconds left in regulation, for the 9-8 come-from-behind win.

Neumann (1-3) opens conference action on Wednesday when it hosts Cedar Crest College. Action is slated to begin at 4:00 PM.
