Coach Saar Reaches 300 Wins as Knights Sweep Gators

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team swept Notre Dame of Maryland University in a Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) doubleheader Tuesday afternoon. Game scores were 9-0 and 21-0, both in five innings.

Head Coach Bill Saar, in his 12th season, reached his 300th win in the 9-0 win in the first game.

During Coach Saar's tenure at Neumann, many players have received postseason honors. He has coached three All-Americans, 19 NFCA East Region All-Stars and 10 ECAC All-Stars. In the conference, four of his players have been named Player of the Year and four have been named the Rookie of the Year. Thirty-one players have been named First Team All-Conference while 28 have been named to the second team. Twice, the team has been ranked in the top 10 in the nation in Division III for team GPA.

The Knights have appeared in the conference postseason in each of the past 11 seasons, finishing as either the Champion or Runner-Up in the eight of the 11 seasons. Coach Saar recognizes all of his past players as he knows he would not have reached his 300th win without them.

Allie White opened up the first game with a walk and ended up scoring on a single by Danielle Grayson. Neumann's big inning came in the fourth when it scored five runs. Kara Grogan knocked in two runs on a single in the inning.

Lauren Wilkie pitched tremendously for Neumann, allowing just one hit while striking out 11 in the shutout win. Becky Guinto tallied three hits in the win as well.

In game two, Neumann continued the momentum from the first game and scored four runs in the first inning. Marisa Giordano, Grogan, and Grayson had back-to-back-to-back singles and all scored in the inning.

Neumann capitalized on some Notre Dame errors and the final 16 runs were all unearned. Jamie Scannella, Melissa Rozumalski and Frankie Fontana each had four RBI in the game. Grogan, Guinto and Scannella each scored three runs.

Haley Broomell pitched a no-hitter and struck out eight in the complete game shutout.

Neumann (7-3, 2-0 CSAC) is scheduled to host a doubleheader on Saturday against Keystone College. The CSAC first pitch slated for 1:00 PM.
