HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University softball team picked up two Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) victories against Centenary College on Tuesday evening. Game scores were 8-5 and 9-0.
In game one, three Knights, Kara Grogan, Becky Guinto and Melissa Rozumalski, had three hits to help the team to the 8-5 victory. Grogan, Guinto and Jamie Scannella drove in two runs each. Lauren Wilkie pitched a complete game to pick up her seventh win of the season. She allowed five runs on 12 hits while striking out three.
Neumann would score two runs in each of the first three innings for an early 6-0 lead. The Knights scored two more runs in the sixth for an 8-0 lead.
Guinto knocked in Grogan and Marisa Giordano in the first inning. Grogan then knocked in Katie Halter and Scannella in the second inning for the 4-0 lead. Scannella put the Knights up 6-0 with two-RBI double in the third inning to score Guinto and Danielle Grayson.
In the sixth inning, Allie White singled to lead the inning off and came around to score for the seventh run. Guinto hit a double to left center field to drive in the eighth run of the game for the Knights. Centenary broke through in the bottom of the sixth with two runs of its own and added another three in the seventh.
In game two, Haley Broomell pitched a shutout for the 9-0 victory. She gave up six hits and struck out nine to pick up her tenth win of the season. White lead the Knights with three runs, four hits and two runs driven in. Grogan and Grayson contributed with three RBI each.
Neumann set the tone early, scoring two runs in the first and three in the second and never looked back. The Knights added two more runs in the fifth and seventh innings.
Neumann (23-5, 17-1 CSAC) will travel to Widener University for two non-conference games on Wednesday. First pitch is slated for 4:00 PM.
