Softball Blanks Cedar Crest in Pair of CSAC Wins

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team took a pair of Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) against Cedar Crest College on Thursday afternoon. Game scores were 8-0 and 6-0.

Neumann came away with the 8-0 victory in the first game. Kara Grogan led the charge with two RBI. Allie White had three hits and scored three runs. Five Knights recorded double-digit hits.

Kristin Beaty picked up her third victory of the season. She pitched a complete game shutout, giving up only one hit.

Neumann set the tone early as it put four runs on the board in the top of the first. White doubled to lead off the game. Marisa Giordano walked to put two runners on base. Grogan hit a triple to right field to drive in the first two runs of the game. She would come in to score on a Becky Guinto single. Katie Halter added a double to drive in the fourth run of the inning.

The Knights would score a run in the second, two runs in the fourth and a run in the seventh.

Neumann picked up the 6-0 win in six innings in a shorten game because of darkness. White drove in two runs for the Knights and added three hits. Megan Williams contributed three hits and Danielle Grayson scored twice.

Haley Broomell secured her sixth victory of the season in a shutout. She gave up five hits and struck out six in the victory.

Grayson, Guinto and Williams led off the second inning with three straight singles to load the bases. Jamie Scannella drove in the first run of the game on a fielder's choice. The second run of the inning came off of a fielding error. White doubled to left field to drive in the third and fourth run of the game with two outs.

Neumann would add a run in the third and the sixth to help secure its shutout victory.
