BALTIMORE, Md. - The Neumann University field hockey team opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action blanking Notre Dame of Maryland University 9-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Marisa Antuzzi and
Elena Rios-Brady each scored two goals for the Knights.
Chelsea Kulesza handed out two assists.
Becky Guinto and
Alexa McIntyre each had a goal and an assist.
The defense held Notre Dame to just seven shots
Becca Wallace started the game in the cage and made four saves.
Kylee Rutty made one save in the second half.
Imogen Bailey had a defensive save.
Neumann scored eight of its nine goals in the first half.
Jessica Harrell opened the scoring just 5:55 into the game off a pass from Kulesza. Antuzzi made it 2-0 less than two minutes later as she put a pass from Guinto in the back of the net.
In the 10
th minute, Guinto scored off a pass from
Megan Shumate.
Shae Risley then made it 4-0 off of Kulesza's second assist of the game.
Rios-Brady netter her goals in a span of two minutes off passes from
Danni Hall and McIntyre. McIntyre connected on a penalty stroke and Antuzzi scored her second goal as the Knights took an 8-0 lead at the half.
Stephanie Brinker scored in the second half as Neumann came away with the 9-0 final.
"I'm glad to get a convincing win in conference action," says head coach
Sarah Kurpel. "We are glad to have another opportunity to refine out play against Albright coming up this week."
Neumann (6-3, 1-0 CSAC) will head to Albright on Wednesday afternoon. The gams is slated to begin at 4:00 PM.
