SCRANTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team battled back from a 2-0 deficit, but fell to Marywood University 3-2 in double overtime as it opened Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Saturday afternoon.
Marywood scored the first two goals of the game, both coming in the second half.
Abu Donzo put the Knights on the board in the 55
th minute when he converted a penalty kick.
Tben Donnie tied the game at two in the 63
rd minute as he headed a loose ball into the net.
The two teams played a scoreless first overtime. The Pacers were able to break the tie and take the game with a goal in the 103
rd minute capitalizing off a rebound.
The Knights outshot the Pacers 20-16.
Tim Glaccum made five saves in net.
"I am proud of the effort by the team today as they didn't give up and got back into the game to even the score in the second half," says head coach
Tim Hollenback. "We need to be locked in for 90 minutes to get results at this level. It's disappointing to concede a goal against the run of play in overtime. All we can do it get back at it on practice on Monday and get ready for Immaculata next weekend."
Neumann (1-5-1, 0-1 CSAC) will continue CSAC action next Saturday when it hosts Immaculata beginning at 3:00 PM.
