IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Neumann University volleyball team fell in four sets, 3-1, to Immaculata University in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action on Wednesday evening.
Each set was close and could have gone way. In the first set, the Mighty Macs held a 21-14 lead when the Knights rattled off five straight points, including two kills by
Sarah Sanderson and two by
Rachael Hoffman, for a 21-19 score. Neumann was able to get within 23-22, but Immaculata sealed the first set win, 25-22.
In the second set, Immaculata jumped out to an early 9-1 lead. Neumann started to chip away at the lead and got to within two, 15-13, and eventually tied the set at 22.
Anna Waltz notched two service aces for a 24-22 lead and the Knights would complete the comeback for a 26-24 second set win.
The third set remained tight the entire time, with the biggest lead being four, 21-17, by Immaculata. Neumann would score the next four points for a 21-all set. The Mighty Macs would get two crucial consecutive points for the 25-23 win and a 2-1 lead.
In the fourth set, the Mighty Macs would take a 14-12 lead and increase it to 19-12. That cushion was enough for the 25-18 fourth set win for the match.
Hoffman led the Knights with 14 kills and a .324 hitting percentage.
Julia Malseed added 12 kills and 15 digs.
Kat Wolf tallied 41 assists and 13 digs.
Nikki Collevechio had 12 digs. Waltz added 11 digs and four service aces.
Neumann (7-11, 2-2 CSAC) continues conference action next Tuesday when it travels to Cairn. The match is slated to begin at 7:00 PM.
