ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University field hockey team blanked Goucher College 1-0 to pick up the first win of the 2015 season on Friday evening.
After playing to a scoreless first half,
Jessica Harrell put the Knights on the board in the 47
th minute for the lone goal of the game.
Goucher held the play to start the game. Neumann then took over the pace of the half. At the end of the first 35 minutes, the Gophers were outshooting the Knights 5-2.
The Knights came out strong in the second half and the hard work paid off as Harrell broke the scoreless game off a scrum in front of the net. Goucher was awarded a penalty corner as time was winding down, but Neumann was able to clear the ball and the game ended.
Neumann came back in the shot column as well and ended up outshooting Goucher 10-8 for the game.
Becca Wallace made six saves in net.
Becky Guinto led the Knights with four shots while Harrell added three.
Neumann (1-1) will hit the road for the first time this season on Wednesday when it heads to Widener. The game is slated to get underway at 7:00 PM.
