HACKETTSTOWN, N.J. – The Neumann University women's basketball team hit a last second shot to come away with a 66-64 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) win at Centenary College on Wednesday evening.
Emily Lyons connected on six three-pointers and led the team with 19 points in the game.
JoHanna Metzger had a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Lauren Legler added 12 points.
The first half was a tale of two quarters. The Knights held a 13-5 lead after the first 10 minutes. The Cyclones battled back in the second quarter to tie the game at 19 with 3:33 on the clock. Centenary then took a two-point lead. Lyons hit one of her baskets from downtown with 1:21 left before halftime, the last basket before the clock ran out, and Neumann took a 22-21 lead into the locker room.
The third and fourth quarters resembled the first two quarters. Centenary outscored Neumann 25-14 in the third quarter to take a 46-36 lead into the final 10 minutes.
The game came down to the final minute of regulation. The Cyclones held a 59-51 lead when the Knights started to make their move. Lyons hit another three-pointer. Centenary hit 2-of-2 from the line. Lyons hit another three-pointer for a four point game, 61-57, with 35 seconds left.
Centenary hit one free throw and
Shauntel Williams connected on two to get within three, 62-59. The Cyclones scored two free throws and Legler answered with a jumper fir a 64-61 game with 20 seconds. Centenary missed on two free throws and Neumann grabbed the rebound went down the court.
Nafisa Saunders tied the game at 64-all with a three points with nine seconds on the clock. The Cyclones committed a turnover with four seconds and Williams hit a jumper with one second left to give the Knights the come-from-behind win.
Neumann (7-9, 5-2 CSAC) will host Marywood on Saturday afternoon. The CSAC game is slated to tip-off at 1:00 PM.
