ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team fell in non-conference play to Johns Hopkins University 2-0 on Wednesday evening.
Junior
Jake McDevitt led the way for Neumann with four shots on goal for Neumann. Goalie
Dan Jones stopped five shots in the loss.
Neumann started the game extremely well, registering seven of the game's first eight shots. McDevitt had three golden opportunities in the first twelve minutes to put the Knights on top, but each attempt was thwarted by a diving Blue Jay keeper. The best chance for McDevitt came in the 12
th minute, when the junior forward intercepted a pass at the edge of the box and found himself in on a partial breakaway. After coyly maneuvering around a scrambling defender, McDevitt went in one versus one against the Hopkins keeper only to have his shot just tipped wide. Neumann would continue to apply pressure the rest of the half, but despite all of their close chances, it was the Blue Jays who notched the game's first goal with just 28 seconds left in the half.
In the second half, Johns Hopkins built momentum off their late first half goal. Just five minutes into the second stanza, the Blue Jays doubled their lead and would not look back from there. The Knights tried to regain their early form as the half went on, but they never quite found it and would fall 2-0. Shots for the game finished 15-11 in favor of the Blue Jays.
Neumann (3-8, 1-1 CSAC) is back on the field Saturday, October 8
th when it hosts conference rival Marywood University. The Knights will be looking to avenge their playoff defeat to the Pacers last year. Kick-off for the match is slated for 3:00 PM.
