ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's soccer team dropped a hard-fought Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match 1-0 to visiting Marywood University on a rainy, Saturday afternoon.
Goalie
Shane Smith made two saves in net for Neumann.
Jake McDevitt led the team with six shots, including three on goal.
The game started slowly for both teams as they both tried to feel each other out. Neumann carried most of the possession in the first half, but despite the team's solid play the game remained scoreless at the break. The Knights would hold a 4-2 edge in shots headed into halftime.
The second half saw the Knights come out fast and furious. Neumann created numerous opportunities to score early in the half but could not break the deadlock. The game would remain tied until the 76
th minute, when Marywood scored against the run of play on a corner kick on only their second shot on goal of the day. The Knights would respond with several late opportunities to get the game tied, but they could not find a way to beat the Marywood keeper. Despite doubling up the Pacers in shots (18-9) and generating six more corner kicks (10-4), Neumann would fall 1-0.
Neumann (3-9, 1-2 CSAC) will need to regroup quickly, as it will host Cabrini University in a CSAC match on Tuesday, October 11
th. Kick-off for the match is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
