ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball team defeated Wesley College 65-50 in game one of the Neumann Tip-Off Tournament on Friday evening.
Nafisa Saunders led the Knights with 16 points.
Mariah Maciejewski tallied a double-double with 14 points and 14 boards.
Lauren Legler and
Erin Baker each added 11 points.
AAliya Hayes added 12 rebounds.
Shauntel Williams handed out seven assists.
The Knights came out and scored the first six points of the contest. The Wolverines answered with the next seven points. The teams traded baskets with Neumann netting the final four points to take a 16-11 lead after the first quarter.
The second quarter was even and the Knights went into halftime holding a 27-23 advantage.
Neumann took control in the third quarter, outscoring Wesley 26-16. While holding a one point lead, 29-28, the Knights went on a 16-8 run, capped by a three-pointer by Williams, for a 43-34 lead. Neumann finished the quarter on a 10-5 run for a 53-49 lead heading into the final 10 minutes.
The fourth quarter was even again, but Neumann was able to take the lead built in the third quarter to come away with the 65-50 win.
Neumann (2-0) will face Rowan tomorrow afternoon in the Neumann Tip-Off Championship game. Rowan defeated Mount Saint Vincent 92-77 in the other game on Friday night.
