ASTON, Pa. - The Neumann University women's basketball team was defeated by Marywood University 63-60 on Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.

AAliya Hayes netted 12 points and eight rebounds to lead the Knights. JoHanna Metzger scored 11 points with nine rebounds. Lauren Legler added 10 points.

The Pacers opened the game with the first four points and held a 20-12 lead after the first quarter.

Neumann came out strong in the second quarter and held Marywood to just nine points in the quarter, all in the first three-plus minutes for a 28-17 lead. The Knights ended the quarter scoring 17 straight points for a 33-29 lead at halftime. Neumann took its first lead on a Sarah Roberts three-pointer with a 1:33 left in the quarter.

The Knights continued to hold small lead for most of the third quarter. The Pacers tied the game midway through the quarter, 38-38. For a brief moment Marywood would take the lead, but Neumann would take back the lead with a Legler three-pointer, 43-40, and the Knights would finish out the third quarter holding a two-point lead, 48-46.

In the final 10 minutes, the Pacers scored the first five points to take the lead back. With 13 seconds on the clock, Emily Lyons sank a shot from downtown to get the Knights to within one, 59-56. Marywood then sank two free throws. Lyons would answer with a jumper and Neumann remained down by one with two seconds remaining. The Pacers again connected on two free throws. The Knights came down the court, but the last second shot was a little late and Marywood hung on for the 63-60 win.

Neumann (9-10, 7-3 CSAC) will host Cairn on Wednesday evening for more CSAC action startin g at 7:00 PM.
