ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's basketball defeated Immaculata University, 79-62, on Wednesday evening in the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) action.
AAliya Hayes and
JoHanna Metzger each notched a double-double to lead the Knights. Hayes netted 22 points and added 13 rebounds. Metzger led the Knights with 23 points and grabbed 12 boards.
Lauren Legler contributed 14 points.
Nafisa Saunders scored 12 points.
The Knights scored the first six points of the game. Three minutes in, Immaculata put its first point on the board. The teams were knotted at eight with 4:28 left in the first quarter. Neumann then scored the next seven points, capped by an
Emily Lyons' three-pointer. Immaculata answered with six points of its own. Neumann netted the last three points of the opening quarter for an 18-14 lead.
In the second quarter, both teams exchanged points at the start. Neumann went on a 7-2 run, gaining a ten point lead, 30-20. Immaculata answered back scoring nine points, 33-29. With 1:31 left in the half, the Mighty Macs netted a three pointer making Neumann's lead by four, 36-32. The Knights ended the half with a five point lead, 39-34
Neumann started the second half strong, going on a 10-2 run to extend its leas. Immaculata was held to just nine points in the quarter and took a 59-43 lead into the final 10 minutes. . In the first three minutes, the Knights scored ten points and only allowed Immaculata two points, 49-36.
The Knights maintained the lead throughout the fourth quarter. Six minutes in, Neumann took a 21 point lead, 72-51. Immaculata would then score seven straight points, 72-58, but that was as close as the Mighty Macs would get and Neumann came away with the 79-62 win. The win is the Knights fifth straight victory.
Neumann (14-10, 12-3 CSAC) will finish its regular season on Saturday when it hosts Summit University. Tip-off is slated for 1:00 PM and the Knights will recognize their seniors before the game.
