ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's basketball team will enter the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) postseason and will host No. 3 Cabrini College in the semifinal game on Wednesday evening at 7:00 pm. The Knights finished conference action 14-4 and as the No. 2 seed, securing a bye in the first round.
The Knights finished up the regular season 18-7 overall. Neumann went 1-1 in the two regular season meetings with Cabrini this season. Each team won on the opponent's court.
In January, Neumann defeated Cabrini 92-80. The Knights held a steady lead over Cabrini the first half and much of the second, leading the Cavaliers by as many as 22 points. With just over two minutes left in regulation, Cabrini got to within five, but Neumann was able to hold off the Cavaliers in the final minute.
In the second meeting, Neumann hosted Cabrini and was defeated 106-85. The first half was a battle with 14 lead changes and eight tied scores. However, the Cavaliers outscored the Knights 51-28 in the second half to end Neumann's nine game winning streak.
For the season, the Knights have six players averaging double-digits in figures.
DeShawn Lowman and
James Butler are contributing 17.1 and 16.5 points per game.
Darian Barnes is adding 13.6 points and is leading the team in rebounds with 11.6 per game and blocks with 62.
Tyaire Hudson is averaging 11.7 points,
Denzel Yard is adding 11.4 and
Kevin Green is adding 10.7.
Neumann won 10 of its last 11 games, only losing to Cabrini in the second to last game of the regular season.
The other semifinal game will be between fourth seeded Rosemont and first seeded Gwynedd Mercy. The winners of both semifinal contests will advance to the Championship game on Saturday
