ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University men's ice hockey team will enter the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) West postseason as the No. 4 seed and will host No. 5 seeded Nazareth College in the first round on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM.
The Knights finished up the regular season 14-8-3 overall and 6-7-2 in conference. In three meetings with Nazareth this season, Neumann went 1-2.
In the first meeting in November, Neumann was doubled up by Nazareth, losing 4-2. After the second intermission, the Knights led 2-1, but the Golden Flyers came back strong in the third period to score three goals to secure the win.
In a pair of away games in February, the teams split. In the first game, Neumann defeated Nazareth 3-1. Midway through the second period, the Knights took the lead on a power play goal and scored an insurance goal 14 seconds later. In the final meeting, the Knights fell to Nazareth 4-1. Neumann started off the scoring in the second period with a power play goal, but Nazareth answered with two power play goals of their own.
This season,
Mike Davis leads the team with 20 goals and 13 assists for a team-leading total of 33 points. He also leads the team in power play goals with six and has two game winning goals.
Shayne Morrissey has eight goals and 18 assists for a total of 26 points.
Brandon Gagne and
Jory Mullin have each contributed seven goals, including two game winners for Gagne and one for Mullin.
Zac Lazzaro has three game winning goals and two shorthanded goals.
Doug Rose also has two game winning goals. Ten Knights have double digit point totals.
The other first round game will be between No. 3 Utica and No. 6 Elmira. Based on the results of each game on Wednesday, the winners will play No. 1 Hobart or No. 2 Manhattanville.
