CLERMONT, Fla. - The Neumann University softball team split a pair of game on Monday during its spring break trip. The Knights defeated St. Mary's 4-2 before falling to John Carroll 5-2.
Danielle Grayson and
Melissa Bond each had a pair of hits against St. Mary's. Bond also knocked in three runs.
Haley Broomell pitched a complete game for the win. She allowed two runs on six hits and struck out a pair.
The Knights got on the board in the bottom of the second. Bond knocked a bases clearing triple and then came around to score on a single by
Melissa Rozumalski.
St. Mary's plated two runs in the top of the sixth, but the four runs in the second inning was enough for Neumann to take the game, 4-2.
In the second game of the day, the Knights fell to John Carroll 5-2.
Neumann put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning.
Kara Grogan tripled to score
Marisa Giordano. Grogan then scored on a groundout by Grayson.
John Carroll tied the game at two in the bottom of the second inning and then took a 4-2 lead in the fifth inning. JHU added an insurance run in the sixth inning.
Lauren Wilkie pitched six innings in the loss. She allowed five runs, four earned, and struck out three.
Neumann (2-2) will face Bethel and Johnson & Wales on Tuesday.
