Softball Drops Final Two Games in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. – The Neumann University softball team dropped its final two games in Florida on Friday afternoon. The Knights fell to Capital University 3-2 in the first game and Cornell College 5-3 in game two.
 
Marisa Giordano had two hits for the Knights in the first game. Lauren Wilkie went 7.0 innings in the loss. She allowed three runs, two earned, on nine hits and struck out two.
 
Capital got on the board with a run in the second and third. Neumann put a run on the board in the fourth. Danielle Grayson led off the inning with a walk. Robyn Hayden pinch ran and came around to score on an RBI by Cox.
 
Capital answered with a run in the top of the fifth for a 3-1 lead. Melissa Bond would score the Knight's second run in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI single by Kara Grogan. Neumann would not be able to get the tying run to cross the plate and fell 3-2.
 
In the second game, Becky Guinto, Kendall Boardman and Cox each had two hits. Haley Broomell went 4.0 innings and allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits and struck out four. Taylor Naman went the final two innings and struck out three.
 
After the Rams scored in the bottom of the first, the Knights opened the second with three straight base hits to load the bases. Bond worked a bases loaded walk to score Cox to tie the game.
 
Cornell added two more runs in the bottom of the third. The teams then traded runs in the fourth. Guinto scored on a double by Jewell Ringgold. Bend knocked in the Knights' third run on a fielder's choice in the sixth inning to score Jen Leinheiser.
 
Neumann (3-7) will next take the field on March 15 when it heads to Moravian College. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
