Women’s Lacrosse Falls in OT in Home Opener

ASTON, Pa. – The Neumann University women's lacrosse team fell to Arcadia University 14-13 in overtime on Tuesday afternoon in the home opener.
 
Rebecca Dolenti led the Knights with four goals. Jordan Hopkins and Diana Caicedo each scored three goals. Kaitlyn Conrad notched a goal and an assist.
 
Twenty goals were scored in the first half alone. Arcadia got on the board first, but Neumann answered with three goals of its own. Dolenti scored at the 27:18 mark. Twenty-seven seconds later, Caicedo found the back of the net. Shae Risley followed with a goal with 25:55 left to play. Caicedo's second goal at the 24:23 mark gave Neumann a 4-2 advantage.
 
Both teams exchanged goals, going back and forth for the rest of the period. Dolenti's second goal broke up a 4-4 tie, and Hopkins' first goal tied the game at six with 18:35 left to play. With 3:11 left in the period, Taylor Klever scored a goal to put Neumann up 9-8. After Arcadia tied the game again, Neumann finished the period with two goals, one by Hopkins and one by Conrad, to lead at halftime 11-9.
 
Hopkins scored her second goal of the game 14 seconds into the second half. Arcadia answered with two goals. Dolenti scored her fourth goal to give Neumann a 13-11 lead with 11:14 left in regulation. With Neumann leading Arcadia 13-12, Arcadia tied the game at 13 with 1:01 left in regulation on a free position goal to send the game to overtime.
 
With 23 seconds left in the first three minutes of overtime, Arcadia found the back of the net to come away with the come-from-behind win.
 
Becca Wallace made 16 saves in net. Hopkins won 14 draw controls. Alexa McIntyre and Wallace each picked up five ground balls.
 
Neumann (1-1) will host The College of New Jersey on Saturday beginning at 11:00 AM.
