RADNOR, Pa. – The Neumann University softball team defeated Cabrini College in both games of a doubleheader on Saturday afternoon to improve to 10-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The scores were 7-4 and 10-5.
In game one,
Julia Cox led the Knights with two homeruns and five RBI.
Danielle Grayson had two hits, including a homerun, and batted in a run and scored a run.
Lauren Wilkie pitched a complete game, allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits and striking out six for her third win.
The Cavaliers took a 3-0 lead in the second, but the Knights quickly answered back in the third with four runs.
Becky Guinto reached on an error and
Marisa Giordano scored. Cox gave Neumann a 4-3 lead with a three-run homerun to center.
Cox continued her dominance with a two-run homerun in the fifth. The Cavaliers got a run back in the sixth to make it 6-4, but Grayson sealed the win in the seventh with a solo homerun for the 7-4 final.
In game two, Grayson had four hits, including a homerun, four RBI and two runs scored.
Melissa Rozumalski hit a grand slam.
Jackie Schneider had a two-run double.
Haley Broomell pitched 5.2 innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out two. Wilkie closed out the game in 1.1 scoreless innings to earn the save.
Rozumalski started the scoring in the fourth with a grand slam. Grayson homered the left in the fifth to drive in three additional runs and give the Knights a 7-0 advantage.
The Cavaliers gained momentum in the sixth and put five runs on the board to make it 7-5. Grayson stepped up again the seventh and singled to second to drive home
Melissa Bond and give Neumann a three-run lead. Schneider secured the 10-5 win with a two-run double to right.
Neumann (13-11, 10-0 CSAC) will host Cedar Crest College for a pair of conference games on Monday. First pitch is slated for 3:00 PM.
